Under the Influence Invasions with The Get LAI’d Crew
Ciara and Peter decided that it’s time to spend some time with the entire LAI family outside of LAI hosted events. And the result of this genius idea? The Under the Influence Invasion. Our goal is to promote community and show all of Southern California why we are the friendliest people in California. This means everyone AND their mamas are invited. Last month we had about thirty people come out to hang at Tapas in Newport Beach. This month we plan to invade 3rd St. Promenade in Santa Monica on 02.05.2012 at around 6pm. This is your chance to experience a new spot together with familiar faces. If you have your LAI, Get LAI’d or Under the Influence shirt be sure to sport it! If you need a shirt, we have them for sale. Email Peter@theLAinfluence with your size and style of shirt and we will get that ordered for you.
Get LAI’d News
This month’s Get LAI’d social will have a very special guest. A past LAI instructor is coming back to Long Beach. Al Rhee has been teaching martial arts and salsa in Chicago for the past year. He is back for a limited time only! Be sure to check out Al and Ciara teach at this next social!
Oh snaps, it’s birthday time! We’ll be celebrating five birthdays: Elsa Ramirez, Chris Espinoza, Per Larson, Kristin Davi and Lyssin Romero.
Latin Motion News:
Last Month was the Grand Opening of the Latin Motion Social. CSULB did an awesome job co-hosting the event. February 18, 2012 is our next event. Be prepared because it is going to be bigger and better. Our very own Peter Araiza will be playing all the Salsa, Bachata, Timba, and Cha Cha Cha jams. Class with your favorite LAI instructors and of course all the friendliest dancers in all of California. We look forward to seeing you all at our next function!
Las Islitas Restaurant News:
Many people have asked why the tacos went up a quarter. At the end of last year, the price of meat was increased. In order to keep the quality, size and variety the same, the price was raised a quarter. Las Islitas appreciates your continued support!

Facts and Questions…
Let’s remember why we started dancing salsa…because we simply love it!
What is an exchange?
Inspired and made popular by the Lindy Hop dance community, an exchange is a dancing event and social gathering designed to bring together and unite dancers who normally would never meet.
Capturing that same spirit, the entire focus of the SLO Salsa Exchange is a weekend of enjoying the company of dancers and dancing!
Why come to the SLO Salsa Exchange? Here are just a few of the many reasons why you should come…
New experiences – you will feel like you belong. As a purely social event, SLOSX is designed to remove the anxieties felt at larger events and to ease making social connections with new people in a relaxed and fun environment. Check out the event schedule for the fun to be had.
New dance partners – dance with new people from all over California. Who wouldn’t like that?! Experience new styles of dance and unique interpretations of music.
New friends – because you can never have too many. Between all the weekend’s dances and social activities SLOSX provides the opportunity for you to truly get to know people on and off the dance floor. You’ll leave the weekend with several new friends that you’ll be eager to see again – guaranteed.
Why San Luis Obispo? Centered halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, San Luis Obispo is the ideal meeting place for dancers everywhere in California.
Recently dubbed “the happiest city in America”, SLO is known for its scenic views, charming downtown, green mountains, beautiful beaches, great restaurants, and abundance of outdoor activities.
But beware! None of SLO’s restaurants have drive-thrus. You’ll have to park and walk in. True story.
Who can attend? Our focus is on college salsa dancers, but our invitation is open to everyone!
When is it? The fun starts on Thursday, March 29th and ends on Sunday night, April 1st.
Where is it? Daytime activities will happen in different locations in and near San Luis Obispo. Evening and late night dancing will be held at Performance Athletics. See the venues page for more information.
How much does it cost? We want to make SLOSX accessible to everyone, so we’re keeping the price low compared to other dance events. Visit our registration page for pricing. Also, be sure to sign up for our mailing list to find out how to get discounted and possibly free tickets.
Where can I stay? The best way to experience any town is to stay with the locals. Visit the housing page to learn about housing options.
Can I volunteer to get into the event? SLOSX may have need of a few volunteers this year. If you would like to volunteer in exchange for a full weekend pass, please contact us to be considered for volunteering. Our volunteer coordinator will contact you.
Who is CPSalsa? We are a student organization associated with California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) in San Luis Obispo dedicated to spreading our love of Salsa dancing to San Luis Obispo and the rest of the Central Coast. Visit our web page or Facebook page to learn more about our club.
